Author Interview

How long have you been writing?

I started writing little short stories as a kid. I wrote my first manuscript, The Sanguinarian Id, in my first semester as a senior in high school. I signed my first publishing contract at 22 years old, and my first book was published when I was 23 years old. After that, I still writing more installments in the series at 24 years old today.

Is this book part of a series?

Yes. The Sanguinarian Id is the first in its book series. Alongside this, I am currently working on part two and the graphic novel rendition of The Sanguinarian Id.

What did you find the most challenging about writing your book?

The most challenging thing about my book is the research. I write in both horror and historical fiction genres. I have to make sure that my research for the time era I write in is accurate, so I can fully form my world around that timeline. Also, in horror, I research the types of folklore and monsters surrounding that genre. Therefore, I have to go through translations of different stories from different cultures and incorporate them into my work, while giving them the respect they deserve in representation. With all of the research, I do a lot of medical illustrations in my book, so I have to research medicine and anatomy as well. By doing this, I’m able to create the illustrations needed that accompany my story.

Which aspect of writing do you enjoy the most?

I love fitting all of the pieces together and giving detail. In detail, the sounds, tastes, smells, and tactile sensations I put my characters through excites me, because I can give my reader the chance to experience all of the gross and visceral things my creations endure. I love it when all of the elements of a story merge into one river.

Do you have any works in progress?

As stated above, I’m working on The Sanguinarian Id II and the graphic novel rendition of the first book. All books in the series will have their own graphic novel renditions. I love to write and draw, so I want to give my readers everything I’ve got.

Chloe Peterson is having a bad night. A really bad night. The large bruise on her cheek can attest to that. And when her car skids off the side of a wet country road straight into a ditch, she’s convinced even the gorgeous guy who rescues her in the middle of the rain storm must be too good to be true. Or is he?

As a successful photographer who frequently travels around the world, Chase Sullivan has his pick of beautiful women, and whenever he’s home in San Francisco, one of his seven siblings is usually up for causing a little fun trouble. Chase thinks his life is great just as it is–until the night he finds Chloe and her totaled car on the side of the road in Napa Valley. Not only has he never met anyone so lovely, both inside and out, but he quickly realizes she has much bigger problems than her damaged car. Soon, he is willing to move mountains to love–and protect–her, but will she let him?

FROM THIS MOMENT ON
For thirty-six years, Marcus Sullivan has been the responsible older brother, stepping in to take care of his seven siblings after their father died when they were children. But when the perfectly ordered future he’s planned for himself turns out to be nothing but a lie, Marcus needs one reckless night to shake free from it all.

Nicola Harding is known throughout the world by only one name – Nico – for her catchy, sensual pop songs. Only, what no one knows about the twenty-five year old singer is that her sex-kitten image is totally false. After a terrible betrayal by a man who loved fame far more than he ever loved her, she vows not to let anyone else get close enough to find out who she really is…or hurt her again. CAN’T HELP FALLING IN LOVE
Gabe Sullivan risks his life every day as a firefighter in San Francisco. But after learning a brutal lesson about professional boundaries, he knows better than to risk his heart to his fire victims ever again. Especially the brave mother and daughter he saved from a deadly apartment fire…and can’t stop thinking about.

Megan Harris knows she owes the heroic firefighter everything for running into a burning building to save her and her seven-year-old daughter. Everything except her heart. Because after losing her navy pilot husband five years ago, she has vowed to never suffer through loving – and losing – a man with a dangerous job again.

About the Book

Title: Scent of the Past

Author: Erin Marie Bernardo

Genre: Historical Fiction

Scent of the Past by Erin Marie Bernardo
A secret diary. A forgotten past. Another time.

When people think of time travel, they think of the clichéd manufactured kind. Of giant electronic machines with flashing lights and buttons calibrated to shoot you into the past with one press. But it doesn’t work that way. You need a reason, a connection, and—most important—a link. But you can’t choose when and why you go. That would be too easy, and we’d all be snapping our fingers in hopes of seeing lost treasures of yesteryear. It must choose you.
Close cousins Addison and Elissa live in present day New York City and lead somewhat ordinary lives. When uncertain circumstances surrounding a set of antique perfume bottles sends them back to eighteenth-century France, they must uncover the truth behind their travel.

Disaster strikes when Addison finds herself in a nearly identical situation to a mishap she experienced in the present—the witnessing of a murder and release of a secret. Only this time the truth could destroy the entire French monarchy. With Addison’s head on the line, the young women search for answers before Addison suffers her unlucky fate twice. It is only when they discover the haunting connections to life in the present, that they understand why they both were sent, and why a repeating past…may not always be such a bad thing.

Author Bio

Erin Marie Bernardo is an American writer of historical fiction. She has a degree in Communication Studies from the University of Minnesota, and is the author of the time-travel novel, Scent of the Past. A lover of historic places, Erin’s novels connect the past with the present.

Erin is currently at work on her second novel, Blackbird’s Bounty, set in the bayou of Louisiana – and is actively seeking a home for her children’s collection, Beautiful and Extraordinary Barnyard Stories, based on true events from on her farm.

Erin lives in Tennessee, but has roots in both Minnesota and Washington State. She is married with two young children.

Author Interview To Dodge A Duke

Standard

How long have you been writing?

I started back in August of 2015 as a means to unleash my creative side. Sure enough, writing did the trick, and now I fear I am addicted. I feel stagnant without writing, so expect to see a lot more novels from me in the future.

Is this book part of a series?

Yes. To Dodge a Duke is the second novel in my Entangled Nobility series. The third novel is under contract with my publisher, and I am working on the fourth. I’ll be a bit sad when I finish this series because all the characters seem almost real to me, but I feel better knowing they all get their Happily Ever After.

What did you find the most challenging about writing this book?

Eleanor (the heroine) was a bit of a villain in To Tempt a Viscount. I didn’t like her all the time when I wrote To Dodge a Duke, but felt she deserved to tell her story. Give her a chance and I think she will surprise you.

Which aspect of writing do you enjoy the most?

The first draft. I love dreaming up the story and writing the dialogue. That’s also when I discover a lot of little traits particular to a character’s personality. It’s like they come alive and tell me how their story should go.

Do you have any works in progress?

I am working on the fourth novel in the series which involves a young lady from To Tempt a Viscount, Miss Cannis, and a gentleman from To Dodge a Duke, Lord Thornwick. While they might seem like an unusual pair, I think you will find they mesh quite well.

About the Book

Title: To Dodge a Duke

Author: Naomi Boom

Genre: Historical Romance / Regency

When a duke gets a chance to pursue a lady as someone else, he would be a fool not to take it.

Logan Eastworth, the Tenth Duke of Waking, returns to England to find a woman to marry. When Miss Eleanor Ashford assumes he holds the title of baronet, he does not correct her error. Instead, he plays on her misconception and arranges a house party where he can make her fall for him and not his title.

Miss Ashford desires a marriage of convenience to an earl or higher. Not to some low-life baronet with an estate in the far reaches of England. She has no time for love, even if the green-eyed baronet with a charming smile tries to convince her otherwise.

Miss Ashford has a choice to make. To wed a duke or the baronet setting her heart aflame. Her choice might not be as simple as she believes.

Author Bio

Naomi Boom is an author who never expected to love writing. Her inspiration struck when she searched for the perfect historical romance novel to read. Nothing sounded appealing, so she decided to write her own. That one novel has morphed into a series, and hopefully many, many more.

She resides in her home state of South Dakota with her husband and toddler. Her dream is to someday find an acreage where she can raise chickens, and continue her writing.
