The Adventures of Fawn Book 3: Far and Yet So Near

far-and-yet-so-near-coverThe Adventures of Fawn continue as the young reindeer, Bunny, Doctor Weather and friends trail Santa’s reindeer after they come under the control of a mysterious stranger, and suddenly, mindlessly march off together. “Far And Yet So Near” sees the group led to an underground cavern where they learn the mystery man intends to steal the team of reindeer. Santa and Wajic turn up in the nick of time…and it looks like everyone is rescued. But the stranger has a few tricks up his sleeve, and explosions unexpectedly rock the cavern as he makes good his escape. But not before he ‘reindeer-naps’ Fawn. She soon finds herself a pet in an English manor house near London. Will Fawn ever return to the North Pole? Will anyone ever be able to find her? Did Santa, Wajic, Doctor Weather and the reindeer perish in the explosions? Read “Far And Yet So Near” to find out!

The Adventures of Fawn, the reindeer, continue in this third, perhaps best, book in the series! A mystery man wants to steal the team of reindeer. Everyone is rescued in the nick of time, but Fawn is reindeer-napped! Now what wil happen? Will Fawn escape? I loved the story, the characters, the general good vibe of this book.

The Adventures of Fawn Book 1: ‘Til the Last Snowflake Falls

book-1-book-coverThe Adventures of Fawn is a ‘coming of age’ series set in the magical world of Santa’s North Pole! The year is 1849, and legendary reindeer Comet and Vixen have a young daughter, Fawn. In this first book, ‘Til the Last Snowflake Falls’ the young reindeer spends far too many days alone in the stable at Santa’s Village with no friends and nothing to do. While her parents caution her she’s much too young and inexperienced to go exploring outside Santa’s Village by herself, Fawn disagrees. Declaring, “I want some fun and excitement! I don’t care how dangerous it is!” she begins sneaking out each day in search of friends, excitement and adventure. She’ll find them all…but also find herself facing dangers like a fierce hungry wolf, a freezing North Pole blizzard, and the treachery of a sea captain capturing animals of the arctic to sell to a zoo in New York City. Along the way, she’ll also learn some valuable lessons about what’s really important in life. The Adventures of Fawn are filled with fun and excitement for all ages!

A heart-warming story about Fawn, a young reindeer, daughter of the legendary Comet and Vixen, who longs to go on some adventures on her own. In this first installment, she finds more danger than she bargained for, but with help of her friends, she stands a chance.

A lovely story, and Fawn is adorable!

Book Spotlight My Junior Year of Loathing

Standard

mjyol-ebook-finalJunior year is supposed to be tough. Exams, term papers, homework, college tours, and participation in extra-curricular activities can all add up to non-stop stress. But Melinda Banner has goals to achieve and dreams to make real. This year, she’ll be unstoppable. But even over achievers need a break.

While walking in the woods to take a break from the stress of it all, Melinda meets a boy named Connor. After a few more run-ins, the two settle into an uneasy friendship, if you can even call it that.

But Connor’s closed and mysterious. Whenever Melinda asks too many questions, he suddenly has to go or is no longer interested in talking. When they’re together, she’s torn between wanting him to open up and running away as fast as she can. Still she can’t seem to shake her budding interest in him.

Connor has his own way of looking at the world, and his views often conflict with Melinda’s practical nature. Can you like someone and loathe them at the same time? Is he even worth the emotional tug on her heartstrings or distraction from all things Junior year?

And, as if she needs another project right now, Melinda starts to obsess over the abandoned estate she passes on the way to school each day. Between Connor and the old estate, Melinda’s beginning to think she’s taking on too much.

But Melinda’s smart. She finds a way to indulge her interest in the estate and fulfill her obligations. She will uncover the truth behind the aging edifice for an epic article in the school newspaper.

But when her investigation reveals a connection between Connor and a tragedy long-since forgotten, Melinda has a choice: put off her junior year achievements to save a local landmark and a boy who constantly pushes her away or put them both out of her mind for good and focus on making the grade.

Book Excerpt

Alex lit a candle off a red ember in the fireplace and ran upstairs to the loft.  “Beren!  Beren, wake up!”  She shook him awake.  “You have to warn Lord Ellsworth about a traitor.  Someone set me up and it had to be an islander.  They were the only ones who knew I had blue hair in my ears.  I’ve been keeping them covered.”

“How did you get here?”

“I escaped with the Blue People and they took me to Rosella, the Sea Sprite of Avalon, where I found Tap, Lord Root’s nephew.  Lord Reginald came after us, but Rosella stopped him.”

“Tap who?  Rosella?”

“She’s a mermaid.  I didn’t think they existed, but she does.  Anyway, she killed him—Lord Reginald, that is, she turned him to stone, and then Tap told me I had to go back to Eledon—my grandmother’s sick, really sick—she’s dying.  We ran away before the soldiers found us.  Tell Lord Ellsworth I’m going to bring back the Holy Grail for him.  I think it’s somewhere in Eledon.  Oh, and by the way, thanks for coming to my defense.”  She ran down the stairs.

“Wait a minute!”  Beren held out his hand as she disappeared.  “What happened?”  He ran his hand through his hair and got out of bed, putting on his robe, cursing under his breath.

In her bedroom, Alex opened the wardrobe door and changed into her brown britches and a white muslin shirt.  Instantly, her disposition improved, but she took note that her old clothes were now much too big on her.  Around her right thigh, she strapped on her Elfin Blade and nodded.  But she took two additional notches on the belt than she used to, and it seemed heavier.

She opened a drawer and pulled out her knives.  One knife slid into each boot, and each wrist cuff held an assassin’s blade.  Then, she slipped on her brown leather vest and reached into the pocket where she found the gold knot she’d forgotten about.

The knot was the size of her hand with a hole in the middle, but made of pure gold.  Lord Governor Tyrone, her benefactor on Seaward Isle, gave it to her as a parting gift.  Engraved on the front was the Elf symbol for gold with a unicorn underneath it.  Maybe it could help Beren and Lila.

From the top of the wardrobe, she grabbed her sword, Challenger and strapped it on.  She pulled the blade out and stared at it for a second—it’d been months since she had done that, and it seemed like a stranger in her hand.  She sighed and returned it to its scabbard.  Strapping the sword belt around her waist, she tightened it as far as she could, but it was still loose.  Then she tied her cloak around her neck and picked up the gold knot.

Under the rule of King Arthur, Alex finds the mortal world far from what she’d imagined, and the mortals are less than hospitable.  Accused of being the “Blue Witch,” Alex is sentenced to die for treason and has been implicated in the mysterious death of one of Arthur’s noblemen by seemingly magical means.  With help from unexpected sources, she escapes and returns to Eledon, where civil unrest and the threat of war looms.  Alex resumes her responsibilities as Keeper of the Keys for the Council of Elders, but must execute a series of quests to prove her abilities to handle the magical Keys of Eledon.  But are her efforts enough to save the Elves from Civil War?
