About the Book

9781742845487_Cover_FrontTitle: Incarnational Wonder

Author: Danny Kinane

Genre: Religion / Spirituality

Incarnational Wonder, even though written in old age and through a bout of severe sickness, has been very revealing on a personal level. Its writing has brought me to a clarity, more than a conviction of mind, something deeper, of what it means to be a human being, at the heart of which is spirituality. Its main focus is to, initially, isolate spiritually and see it what it really is: the bedrock not only of personal reality, humanity, but indeed of all reality. This foundation is found not so much in sacred documents such as the Bible or the Quran or in churches dogmatic teachings but in the human spirit itself in its everyday dialogue through experience. Experience is at the heart of the book, an in-built director of where our lives are going – and why and how. Academic disciplines such as theology and biblical studies take a secondary role. Today’s spirituality is saying to us we must find meaning within ourselves, our own spirits, if we are to thrive in, and indeed survive, modern life.

Author Bio

I came to Australia as a migrant from Ireland in 1973 to teach high school; as it turned out in both Victoria and Queensland. After five rather demanding years I decided to return to a previous interest and concern and eventually became a priest in the Catholic Church in North Queensland. This became an interesting and varied experience over the next twenty years, especially as a priest in the North-west of the state, so different from the urban areas of the east coast in its spiritual needs. But the main message over those twenty years emerged clear and powerfully: religion was dying because its spiritual base was so inadequate. I eventually retired from the church to spend my twilight years living a more contemplative lifestyle in the southern Queensland bush. I also began to write. “Incarnational Wonder” is my fourth book.

Title: Timeshaft

Author: Stewart Bint

Genre: Time Travel

By the twenty-seventh century, mankind has finally mastered time travel—and is driving recklessly towards wiping itself out. The guerilla environmentalist group WorldSave, with its chief operative Ashday’s Child, uses the Timeshaft to correct mistakes of the past in an effort to extend the life of the planet.

But the enigmatic Ashday’s Child has his own destiny to accomplish, and will do whatever it takes within a complicated web of paradoxes to do so. While his destiny—and very existence—is challenged from the beginning to the end of time, he must collect the key players through the ages to create the very Timeshaft itself.

“Do our actions as time travellers change what would otherwise have happened, or is everything already laid down in a predetermined plan?” he asks. Stewart Bint’s Timeshaft is an expertly synchronized saga of time travel, the irresistible force of destiny, and the responsibility of mankind as rulers of the world.

Book Excerpt

“Come.” He held out a calloused palm.

She swallowed hard, her stare raking from his scowling face to his wide chest and muscular thighs. Payment had already come due.

“No.” Davies grabbed Bella’s arm, glaring at the mud man. “This isn’t right. Take me instead.”

His scowl deepened.

“It’s okay.” Bella hurriedly slid her hand into his. Davies offer was unbelievably brave, but Bella would never allow it. Her colleague was Council—and injured. She’d never survive this. Plus, the idea of a deal had been Bella’s from the start. And she couldn’t regret it. Not when they were all still alive.

His skin was rough—and surprisingly warm.

A shiver slid down her spine. So much so that it took her a second to realize he’d gone perfectly still. His gaze locked on their intertwined palms. Something that looked a lot like wonder etched in the hard planes of his face.

Her gaze skittered to Davies’. Her colleague looked equally confused.

It hit Bella then. Human contact. He was reacting to the sensation of touch. Cherishing something as simple as the heat of her palm against his.

A wave of sympathy rippled through her. This man might be a criminal, but he was also a living being. One who had clearly been alone for a very long time.

On instinct, she interlaced her fingers with his, pressing their hands closer.

He shuddered, his eyes sinking shut, his face tilting upward, the way a person might delight in the sun on his face after a hard, dark winter. Her chest went tight.

After a lifetime of being just one more mouth to feed, one more body that had to be clothed and housed using Earth’s ever dwindling resources, the feeling of mattering to someone was unfamiliar—and nice.

“It’s okay.” It was the same words she’d said before, but this time she meant it. “We‘re on your side….F—friends.”

His eyes flared open, his grip tightening, more possessive now than cherishing. All hints of vulnerability wiped away. “I’m not looking for a friend.”

Guest Blog: Work in Progress

Yes, I have two (2) writing projects in progress on which research has begun and another which will need even more work. In all three (3) cases, much more research has to be done. Two of these projects are simply greatly expending two characters which were invented for “Full Circle for Mick” If I can get enough information from my research, one or even both new books can become factual. If I cannot obtain enough information that is required, then the books must remain as fictional. If research yields the results that I am hoping for, I will write the books about these people under their true names, however, if I cannot obtain all of the information required, then one or both of them shall be presented as fiction. The third book shall be about someone who suffers a major disability but has the courage to keep on striving for greater improvement, no matter what the effort and cost. I am currently awaiting the result of the activities of a third party as to necessary information about this writing project.

I will not elabourate further as to do so at this point could jeopardise my intellectual property rights.

Author: Michael Kramer

Genre: Historical Fiction

In 2013, Carolyn and Michael Georg Kaspar Friedrich Lampman applied for passports at the Albury Post Office and while hers went through immediately, (she is Australian born), his application resulted in a phone call being made to Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) and that department refusing him a passport on the grounds that his Australian Naturalisation Certificate “Did not say if his gender was male or female.” It did however; state that “Michael Georg Kaspar Friedrich Lampman presented himself before me at the Millicent Council Chambers on …. To swear allegiance to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second, her Heirs and Successors. This makes one wonder if the clerks at DIAC are conversant enough in the English language to know that “Himself” can only mean a male.

Michael’s reason for wanting his passport was to return to Vietnam and to fulfil his promise to a Buddhist Monk to return as a qualified engineer to help to rebuild the country that he had helped to destroy as a young Australian soldier in the Vietnam War during 1968 and 1969.

At a later date, DIAC cancelled his citizenship and papers, (he was a naturalised Australian Citizen, originating from Germany) even threatening to send him to jail for two years, for “Falsifying an Official Document,” resulting in him then using “Engineering Problem Solving Techniques” to rectify the situation as he was now also driving illegally on the grounds that in NSW it is not legal for someone to hold a driver’s licence unless that person has either “Approved Residency Status” or Australian Citizenship.

This is the story of a man’s battle and final victory against rampant bureaucracy, racism and PTSD. It deals with the first symptoms of PTSD, its diagnosis and its treatment and self-help strategies.

Author Bio

In 1967, he volunteered for service with the Australian Army in the Vietnam War, and was told that seeing how he was only twenty years old, he would need the signatures of his parents in order to join the army. Yet, the Australian Government was calling up males aged twenty years for service in the war if they wanted to serve or not. This prompted him to simply alter the date of birth on his Australian Naturalisation Certificate from 01/03/1947 to 01/03/1946 and he was in the army and this action was something that would become a problem forty five years later.

He went on to serve in Vietnam with the First Battalion of Royal Australian Regiment (1RAR) and continued to serve until he received a medical discharge some ten years later. As a treatment strategy for diagnosed PTSD, he was instructed to undertake tertiary studies which resulted in his better management of PTSD and his becoming a much better person as a result.  In time, he was to undertake studies and now holds the Advanced Diploma of Mechanical Engineering, and the Associate Degree of Civil Engineering. He operates his own architectural and engineering drafting service, providing a high level of competent drafting work.

In 2010, he applied for an Australian passport which was refused by Immigration on the grounds that his Naturalisation Certificate did not list his gender. At a later date, the Australian Department of Immigration cancelled his Australian Citizenship papers, which have since been re-issued to him as well as an Australian passport. At a function held at his home, it was suggested that he put the experiences into a novel and this is the result.

Author Interview Henchgirl

Standard

henchgirlbanner

I’m interviewing Rita Stradling, author of YA Fantasy “Henchgirl”. Thank you for visiting and for answers my questions.

How long have you been writing?

“Unworld” was the first novel I ever wrote. It was science fiction and about kids stowing away on a spaceship and getting into all sorts of trouble. The book consisted of fifty hand written pages, with every other word misspelled and I’m pretty sure I was only able to bribe my twelve year old big sister into reading it. Thirteen years later (and seven years ago), I started writing full length novels.

What was the most challenging part about writing Henchgirl?

One of the biggest challenges in the making of Henchgirl was creating the mother of the main character. The mother, Stephanie, has major issues, among them being a severe alcoholic; in the beginning of my writing process, I made Stephanie’s truest motivation greed and a single minded self-serving nature. One of my beta-readers, a psychiatrist, informed me that with the complexity of Stephanie’s history, life and situation, ‘greed’ just didn’t make sense as her primary motivation. With the help of my beta-reader, we did a psychological profile for Stephanie and I rewrote the entire book based off that characterization.

What is your favorite part of being an author?

I love almost every part of being an author. Yet, there is one moment in every books’ process that is my favorite. After I finish a book, abandon it, tear every sentence apart, beg others to do likewise, feel giddy, get angry, re-write it what feels like a hundred times, then that moment happens, the book is exactly what I want it to be. Suddenly, the sum of the words make up exactly the story I want to tell.

Will this book be part of a series?

Yes, this is the first book in the Dakota Kekoa series.

Do you have any works in progress you’re working on?

I do, I am currently working on the second book in the Dakota Kekoa series: Rex. Along with that, I am working on the third book in The Deception Dance series, Waltzing into Damnation. I am hoping to have both books out by the end of next year.

About the Book

Henchgirl Cover Choice 1Title: Henchgirl

Author: Rita Stradling

Genre: YA Urban Fantasy

I had never thought my life was ideal, but it had been manageable.

By day I pretended to be a human, going to a ‘human’s only’ high-school, making human friends and trying to get the attention of Keanu Hale, my school’s quarterback. At night, I worked as a henchman, making sure no one got in the way of my grandfather’s hotel-empire which spanned across the Mabiian island chain. I was my grandfather’s most cherished weapon, I stole and manipulated emotions, I would even drain someone of their ability to feel joy if my grandfather ordered me to.

I won’t apologize for what I did, it kept my sisters fed and my grandfather from finding out that my mother squandered our monthly allowance on shopping and throwing extravagant parties. It kept my family alive. But more importantly, my job kept me from being trained to be a wife and married off to some rich and powerful dracon, a human-dragon hybrid, as all girls with one-eighth dragon blood are.

As I said, my life was just manageable, until Wyvern Manderson vacationed to my island. Wyvern Manderson, the rich, powerful, and famous for something or other, half-dragon jerk, just kept showing up, sabotaging my missions and ordering me around. On top of that, for some reason he was always angry at me.

Pretty soon I was suspended from further missions, facing eminent financial ruin and still had to see the jerk everywhere I went. When my friend Amanda from my human-high-school vanished, Amanda turned out to be Wyvern’s human half-sister he was keeping secret and protecting.

Taking on the mission to find Amanda might have been what I needed to save my family from losing everything, but to do it I would have to spend all day everyday with the jerk. To top that all off, Amanda was not the only girl who disappeared, and when girls started being discovered dead I realized that my sanity wasn’t the biggest thing I would be risking in this investigation; I might very well be the next to die.

Book Review Degrees of Control

Standard

Book coverTitle: Degrees of Control

Author: Eve Dangerfield

Genre: Romance

Charlotte Bell is a typical yoga teacher. She’s friendly, earnest and has some slight masochistic tendencies. After a painful break-up she’s determined to address her long-denied kinks with the kind of man she’s always been too terrified to approch. Her friends have select James Hunter a male model turned corporate suit and after a ‘chance’ encounter at a party, James agrees to school Charlie in the harsher side of sex. He knows she’s too genuine, too kind, too everything for a guy like him but he won’t turn down an opportunity to break in a starry-eyed submissive like her. Yet as Charlie and James embark on a strings-free sexual relationship they discover a connection that runs deeper than either of them could have imagined.

I loved Charlie. She’s honest, blatantly so, just speaks whatever is on her mind. She and James have a real spark between them, real chemistry. James Hunter is extremely sexy, and naughty, and he appeals to Charlie’s more masochistic tendencies. He has no troubles taking her as his submissive, although he does struggle about it at first thinking she’s too nice, too genuine for everything he wants to do with her.

Despite the focus being on the sexy times (hahaha), they also start to have romantic thoughts toward one another, so it’s more than just sex. It’s sexy and kinky but romantic too.
