Author Interview

How long have you been writing?
I have always found power in the pen, as early as elementary school when my mother bought me my first Diary! My childhood was a hodgepodge of writing activities including submitting poems for a local anthology, penning letters to God, and writing love letters to persuade my mother to reduce enforced punishments for excessive talking in school.
What was the most challenging part about writing your book?
Writing often feels like embarking on a new discovery. All great discoveries often come with a sense of the unknown that can be scary and somewhat intimidating. As a new author, the most challenging aspect was convincing myself that “you can do this!”
What do you enjoy the most about being an author?
When writing, there is an insatiable urge to get the work down on paper. You’re so engrossed that you don’t really stop to appreciate it. However, once it’s complete, there is that moment when you sit back and think “wow, I did that!” That’s the best feeling. The second greatest moment comes when a reader opens your creation and shares “I love it. This is awesome!”
Will this book be part of a series?
The book Pearls and Tools of Wisdom was created to be a stand-alone book. However, my next project will be a series of children’s books.
Do you have any works in progress you’re working on?
I once had a mentor tell me that a good writer is always writing! I am currently working on a few projects. The first being my memoir, which chronicles my personal struggles with depression and anxiety, and my journey to follow the adage: “physician, heal thy self”. The second project is a series of children’s book that will explore the ideas of multiculturalism and resiliency.

Fanatics_WeberTitle: Fanatics (A Brooklyn Crimes Novel)

Author: Richard Hilary Weber

Genre: Mystery / Thriller

For fans of Kathy Reichs and Linda Fairstein, Richard Hilary Weber’s new Brooklyn Crimes Novel follows police detective Flo Ott as she crisscrosses the borough’s mean streets and lands in the crosshairs of a highly skilled assassin.

NYPD detective Flo Ott has rotten luck. First she’s put on bodyguard duty for U.S. Senator-elect Cecil King after a ultra-right-wing terror cell announces plans to assassinate him. Then she’s saddled with investigating the homicide of a hip-hop mogul. Ballz Busta was fatally rapped on his head outside his mistress’s Park Slope condo. The two jobs couldn’t be more different. Finding Busta’s killer takes Flo into the outrageous livin’ large margins of the Brooklyn music scene. Keeping Senator-elect King alive requires constant vigilance as well-trained assassins could strike anytime, anywhere. It’s only when these cases explosively collide that Flo realizes she’s finally caught a break.

What she doesn’t know is that she’s lit a fanatic’s fuse and now he has a new target: the woman cop with the nerve to try and stop his murderous schemes.

What an amazing, well-crafted, suspenseful read. I loved Flo. She’s intelligent, witty, and brave. I could connect with her very easily. The plot was great too, and I enjoyed the writing.

How long have you been writing?
I’ve been writing on and off since I was a child. But I recently started writing regularly on my blog at www.tonekaetienne.com, and am a Huffington Post contributor. I made the decision to write the book in February 2015 and finished the book in August.

What was the most challenging part about writing Become You?
The most challenging part of writing Become You are the mindset shifts that I personally struggled with. For me, it wasn’t the actual act of writing, but how are people going to view my book. I went through several periods where I thought no one would care what I have to say and I was worried that people would think it was horrible! It was making the decision to share my story because I had to be confident that what I had to share with my readers could impact them in a profound way.
What do you enjoy the most about being an author?
I enjoy the creative process most, I enjoy the process of having a concept or idea in my head and then bringing it to reality. There are no rules when it comes to writing, in my opinion! I am free to be me and express myself however I choose.
Do you have any works in progress you’re working on?
As a true creative, I’m now exploring all the parts of me that I have left dormant for so many years. I have discovered a love of the spoken word just recently, and have plans to turn my book into an audio version. In addition, I’m interested in creating products and programs to inspire and encourage women to own their truth and step into their destiny.

About the Book

ConcreteStilettosFrtFinalTitle: Concrete Stilettos

Author: Mya Kay

Genre: Urban Romance / YA

Mya Kay’s Concrete Stilettos: A Love Story, is a fierce, urban romance that will leave the people in the pews and the parlor screaming for more.

She’s as real as they come and as hard as they make them. And her heart still belongs to God…

Seventeen-year-old Taz Elizabeth Green is every man’s fantasy, every girl’s women crush and the envy of many of the women she strips with in Philadelphia. But she’s not your average stripper. A virgin whose parents were murdered when she was 12, Taz only dances because she truly loves it – not because she’s broke and hungry. Not one to make an excuse or take part in self-pity, she wiggles her way into private parties for politicians and police officers, adding to the stash her parents left her. Even the Grady’s, the family that adopted her when her parents were murdered, have no idea the double life Taz is living. They sent her off at sixteen to UCLA, a genius that had been skipped twice in school, to get a degree in Business and Design. Only, Taz returned to Philadelphia a year later with more than just college credits to her name. The only thing Taz fears is her father, Officer Drew Grady, painting the town red when he finds out.

Her best friend Daylen believes in her and so does her cousin Shamiyah. With encouragement, she learns to manage Shamiyah’s lingerie store and takes baby steps to a purpose filled life. She even increases her church attendance and prays more, seeking answers to unknown questions. Enter Curran Kilman, the UPS driver who delivers to the store and suddenly, Taz’s desire for fun in the nightlife changes to nighttime picnics and strolls in the park on the weekend. She can tell Curran might be “the one” and she feels he may be getting closer to making a commitment. But not before she’s exposed at the church she’s been attending – on the Sunday her and Curran go together. And to make matters worse, Daylen’s leukemia diagnosis brings out a family secret that could add layers to Taz’s demons – and for once, she’s not sure how to fight. Not to mention every time Taz leaves the hospital or her condo, there’s a black SUV parked outside and she is sure she’s being followed which is confirmed when Taz almost meets death on more than one occasion. Pleasure and purpose collide in Concrete Stilettos: A Love Story, the story of a teen girl who’s lost in a world full of judgment and sin, but knows God is calling her name.

Author Interview Forgotten

Standard

forgottenbanner

How long have you been writing?

I have been writing now for about 3 years. It all started when the idea for Lockdown (the first book in the AM13 series) came to me – I’d read a lot of zombie horror novels, but the main characters all seemed to be extraordinary and very capable of surviving the nightmare surrounding them. I started to think ‘what about everybody else?’ – and that’s where the very ordinary, normal (and sometimes a little vacuous!) Leah came to life.

What was the most challenging part about writing Forgotten?

I wrote Lockdown for myself, then was lucky enough to get a publishing offer. Writing Forgotten was different because I knew that it was going to get published. It put much more pressure on me than before. After a few false starts, I decided to try a new writing style, and introduce 3 (very different) characters into the mix. Ethan is an OCD sufferer, who struggled with real life before the zombies came along, Alyssa is an overly confident teenager who knows that she has what it takes to survive and Dr. Jones has been selected to help find a cure.

In Lockdown, the Government has decided to quarantine people inside their own homes while they clear up the mess, in Forgotten there seems to be a sanctuary, totally untouched by infection. Each brings its own trials and tribulations with it.

What do you enjoy the most about being an author?

I enjoy writing stories from the perspective of the people who would normally be ignored – particularly in this apocalyptic series. We aren’t all badass with amazing survivalist skills. In fact, most of us aren’t – so how would we cope?

Will this book be part of a series?

Yes, it’s a trilogy. Lockdown, Forgotten and the third book in the series Extinct will be out later this year. There are more details at http://thelockdown.co.uk.

Do you have any works in progress you’re working on?

I am working alongside the publisher to get Extinct ready for publication. This book centres around Georgie – a zombie author – who cannot cope with the concept of her books coming to life in front of her very eyes. This book ends the series explosively, with twists and turns along the way.
