I’m interviewing the author of romantic suspense “The Connolly Affair” today. Enjoy the interview.
How long have you been writing?
I have been writing for a very long time. Back in middle school I enjoyed writing stories. I taught myself to write screenplays in high school. I also wrote a lot of music during that time and in college. I truly enjoy all mediums of the creative world. My first book, Jacob, was completed nearly 12 years ago but I just released it this year. Anything creative is great in my book (no pun intended J).
What was the most challenging part about writing The Connolly Affair?
This my first venture into romance. Jumping into this genre with a trilogy was a big personal challenge to myself. On top of that, the first book is written primarily from Nicki Connolly’s perspective. I have written many projects with many strong women as central figures, but this is the first I’ve done from a first-person perspective. A lot of men won’t attempt to cross over and write first-person from a woman’s perspective. I loved it and thought it was an amazing experience. Writing for a strong career woman who also juggles raising a family was truly a wonderful journey. I also had a terrific woman who edited my book who also is a romance writer. She was very impressed with the work and I think the amazing story shines through. It is a great romance-suspense; passionate and breathtaking.
What is your favorite part of being an author?
I honestly just love to write. My favorite part is creating. It is very difficult to be an author. I’ve been fortunate to receive great reviews and high marks thus far, but being a writer places you on an island. I love the island, but it’s also a lonely place. There isn’t quite anything like sitting and flushing out your story late at night; headphones on and it’s just you and the computer. It can be pretty extraordinary to fall into a story and live in another place; even if it is just for short bursts of time.
Is this book part of a series? If so, will there be more books in the series?
This is a trilogy. There are three books to the story. It was important to break up the story in that way. Readers will understand as they read the works. The series spreads out to nearly 1000 pages. It also changes POV’s during the course; although Nicki Connolly will be our prevailing voice in all the books. Book 2 is already completed and next in line for editing behind a suspense-thriller I’m getting ready for release entitled, Keeper of the Tower.
Do you have any works in progress you’re working on?
Keeper of the Tower is an amazing suspense-thriller set circa 1920 by the Jersey Shore. The bulk of the story takes place at the famous Barnegat Lighthouse and is an amazing character drama about redemption. It has a lot of Stephen King in it (like Shawshank Redemption). The apex of the story takes place during a nasty ice storm here in New Jersey. I worked with the Historical Society here to ensure accuracy in the story. It’s an amazing piece and I’m very excited to share it with the world!
